Lesson 1 is already the third single of L’Equipe du Son’s forthcoming debut album ‘Supersonic’. The original version is a mixture between disco-mood sounds and breathy pop, deeply influenced by the synthesizer sounds of the 70s and 80s.
The first remix comes from The Legendary 1979 Orchestra and with carefully crafted swirling bells and warm synthlines the TL1979O remix has actually continued in the style of the original.
Hailing from Melbourne’s Inner-West it’s Silhouette Music regular Yasumo providing an entirely new approach. A perfect blend of guitars and, well, pure funk!

The title cut is an edit that has been doing the rounds for a quite a while and many will recognise – A sun-clad rocking stormer with a sweet bassline and soaring psyched out vocal harmonies. This stadium sized anthem just oozes that 70's feeling. “Belly Button” is a laid-back groover of mysterious origins with sexy whispering vocals that makes it the perfect tune to begin an adventurous night, while “7th Of April” is a moody kraut disco dub number with distorted keys and talkbox driven guitar solo.

one year ago, sitting under the Maastricht sun; Roy zipping on a San Miguel, me enjoying a Tres Anjos with a Coke on the side, discussing the disturbing upcome of disstortion in the music scene. we both agreed that it was time for some kind of a disco-paper something more traditional, more respectfull towards to artists who made a hugh effort making the same sounds we nowadays have as an plug-in but they made it on instruments with shifters; faders and god knows what they build themselves to get an unique sound. a page where you can find new releases;(re)mixes and classics in an area not known by many but highly appreciated by those who don't just put on the radio to be distracted. disco was our first love so our page-name had to contain that same feeling of authenticity. one year later and 407 likes on our account, the virus is spread and the story continues!! concluding that not everybody wants to be on facebook we've started a little blog on discourant.blogspot.com and like all little children we wanted more after that so our first discovenue was born. On 22th of january, on Roy's birthday we threw our first party in Ipanema, with a nice disco-acid live set from Disco Syndicate(Bruno & Lucas), a perfect set of Italo disco by Sidi Stardust all glued together by the skills of Le Disko (roy). Friday the first of July we will celebrate our junior year of blogging with a great party at Cafe Ipanema in Maastricht... find the discovenue on our page!!

I'm writing to tell you my problem. Last week my husband, whom I've been married to for the past 15 years, has bought a song on the internet. It's called Soap Opera. The guys who made that thing are Golden Bug (it looks like he's a successful french producer living in Barcelona) and Mustang, a brand new disco duo from Belgium.

Anyway it's after he has bought that mp3 on the net that my problem started. He's listening to that song 24\7, and...well, Dr Corispino...it looks like he turned into some kind of sex maniac.

Named after the capital of Urugay, Montevideo are the tightly knit cluster of four likely lads, four friends who take to their musical ambitions like a souped up Pontiac Firebird to a freshly tarmaced autobahn. Produced by Sebastiaan Vandevoorde (ex Villa), "Tribal Dance" offers three tracks that showcase the band's versatility. "Working with Seba was a blessing.
Title track "Tribal Dance" bursts into action with a mutated jungle boogie, until glamorous live-played strings and a rubber bass line drop in and guide the tune onto a gold and ivory paved dancefloor. "Fate & Glory" is another dynamic, disco-infected stomper with falseto voice and the most catchy whistle since Bryan Ferry's famous whiz during Jeaous Guy. It feels like watching Flash Gordon, Saturday Night Fever and Midnight Cowboy all at once. Finally, "Mr. Drake" is a haunting funeral march, treading the footsteps of Japan circa Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Bowie. "I wrote Mr. Drake as an imaginary epitaph for Nick Drake - quite dramatic, I know", laughs Jean.

Over the past years, Australia has offered us a number of bands and producers with a distinctive sound. Still argued whether they add a indie feel to dance music or a dance feel to indie music the fact is that this new "australian sound" attracts more and more fans worlwide.
Coupons are a new breed within this australian indie dance scene, calling their style dreamrave: a restless amalgamation of bright textures and toe-tapping percussion. take 8 parts of disco, 4 parts 80's pop and 17 parts of awesome and you'll get the picture. After a number of fine remixes under their belts, "Driving to Your House Party" is their debut release featuring remixes from fellow australian producer/musician Jad and The Ladyboy and two Discotexas in house producers: Xinobi and Moullinex, the latter in collaboration with SymbolOne, introducing their new collaboration moniker, 'Gesso'.

Shindu

Living so close to the Belgian border doesn't make me as objective as one can be. But who can resist the amount of pleasure being created by our Belgium friends from Mustang; Villa; Moonlight Matters; The Magician; Mickey; Wirspielen and many others. And so the story continues... Like The Glimmers; The Subs; Soulwax/2 Many dj's and some of the earlier named acts, SHINDU also find its base in an "enormously creative city" called Ghent.

After 4 years of playing and promoting parties all over Belgium. Static & Greedy, Chistopher D'havé and Maxime Abbenbroek decided to step up their game and start producing their own music. Together with Chibi (Tine Vanwijnsberghe) as their vocalist they formed the band SHINDU. An Eighties pop/synth electronica band. Static & Greedy are known for bringing electro/nu-rave dj-sets, but if you're born in the 80ies you can't hide your love for the sounds of synthy vocal pop/electronica. And it’s on that basis that SHINDU was born. Their tracks are written and produced with the essential help of good friend Sebastiaan Vandevoorde, known from Villa and Moonlight Matters.

As we are waiting for the first releases; ‘Dreams’ and a remix of Happy House from Siouxsie & The Banshees. A mixtape, which contains the club edit of ‘Dreams’, to easy the pain

“The Twelves”: João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, born on the same dates: "12^th"July 1980. The breakthrough for The Twelves came in July of 2007 when they remixed the track “Boyz” from M.I.A’s sophomore album, Kala. The duo followed “Boyz” with equally well-received remixes for Asobi Seksu and Erlend Oye. This stream of good tracks soon caught the attention of a number of labels, including Modular Records (home of Cut Copy, Klaxons and others) who comissioned a “Twelves” remix of the song “Get Lucky” by New Young Pony club. The resulting remix was released alongside reworkings from household names like MSTRKRFT and Who Made Who, and received excellent reviews.
The sound of the duo brings influences from many genres. Among the most influential to their sound are Daft Punk, Justice, Royksopp, Vitalic, Simian Mobile Disco, MSTRKRFT, Clor, Cut Copy and Goldfrapp. Their live show is a unique blend of live keyboards, drum machines, mash-ups and remixing on the fly. Always trying to improvise as much as possible.

All work and no play made this Jack miss out on a lot of things these last two months. Of course there were a lot of parties that I attended so no worries I had my part of fun but still, missing my discobloggin time seems to be a great lost. Anyways here's something I should have informed you earlier about.. Sebastiaan Vandevoorde who we know as Seba from Villa started his own project. Moonlight Matters!!! And although I've heard two of his mixes before it didn't wake me up until I received a fb-request from Sebastiaan still no clue but the profile picture was quiet familiar...

The identity of the artists behind Flight Facilities remains mysterious… Rumour has it that this project is the brainchild of Jimmy 2 Sox and (possibly) U-Go-B, two Sydneysiders affiliated with Australian electro labels Bang Gang 12"es and Modular. Their page on LastFM says they met at a Holy Ghost! DJ set in New York and immediately hit it off, sharing loves in music, literature and movies. Plans to work together were formed then but didn’t really take off until the following year when they met again at the secret Bang Gang Runway party. This time, real plans were formed and and they started doing some remixes for a bunch other artists such as Toecutter, Bag Raiders, The Lowbrows and Sneaky Sound System.

Blamma! Blamma! once were two. Now they are one. But the beat goes on.

Blamma! Blamma! Struck me this summer with their amazing rework of Stevie Nicks' (Fleetwood Mac)
Edge of Seventeen. The track starts off slowly with that typical guitar riff and those lovely vocals from Stevie, so far a tribute for sure! Evolving into a faster version the track takes you to a higher level until the moment it drops. You'll find yourself dancing on the dance floor without noticing who or what brought you there... you just can't stop dancing if you hear this at the right volume! A beautiful edit/remix without loosing the sincere feeling from the original song. Sad to say that Beyond 17 was the last project of the two. Unfortunately, at the beginning of 2009, Martin Cole was diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away last summer. After much soul-searching, Nick decided to try and release some of the music that he and Martin had been working on and finishing some of their uncompleted tracks.
After hearing ‘Beyond 17’ his friends Jamie and Nigel, of London act Cage And Aviary, decided they would love to do a very limited, vinyl only, release it on their label The Walls Have Ears in tribute to Martin.

The Revenge is the alias of Graeme Clark. This Scottish Disco maestro began producing in his early teenage years, making a skewed blend of electronic music using a couple of his dad's old drum machines and a sampler. Influenced by his parents collection of rock, soul and funk as well as eighties daytime radio and the burgeoning rave scene, he began the process of dissecting and re-imagining the music. Playing everything from house to disco re-edits, Clark is promising plenty of the former for this visit to the church of Slam. Again, it’s a far cry from his original love of rave (‘people like The KLF, Prodigy, Orbital and some hardcore Rotterdam stuff too), but then again versatility has been a hallmark of his career. He has been or still is a part of Deportivo Street Team, OOFT!, Cronk Family Enterprises, 6th Borough Project and The Hong Kong Micros. ‘The names aren’t so much to signify a different style,’ he says, ‘but more to signify a different working partnership'. He likes to work with different people on these projects and that keeps production exciting for him.

Nicholas,25-year-old producer (and Law School graduate) is living in Perugia - Italy at the moment but he lived in NYC for several years! Nicholas started making his own music about five years ago! He started of with mainly Techno, spinning at about 125 bpm, this influence is still to hear at his first bootleg, a remix of a New Order track, which came out on vinyl in 2009 as “nims – keep it coming”. After that he started messing around whit new styles of dance music, wanting to drop down the tempo a little and make something more true to the roots of house music, the result was “Depth of my soul” that was released on Small World Disco 003. The feedback for this release was awesome and several doors opened up in downbeat house and disco edits land.
In an interview he says "I'm a vinyl addict; I don’t like digital at all. I could spend entire days in a basement digging trough wax. I have a respectable collection that ranges from obscure classic house to techno, underground disco, soul, boogie, Italo disco and all that other good stuff.
Bringing back the old school vibes with these releases by sampling and reworking many 70s and 80s classics, Nicholas has proven that he has a sense for finding a solid groove. A good DJ set isn't complete when doesn't include a few heart melting diva vocals.

Formed over a mutual appreciation of disco beats, handclaps, cowbells, and vocoders, Jamie Paterson and Danny Ashenden are The C90s. who produce disco music on Headman's Relish Records. The two DJs who've met in 2007 have rocked floors over the UK and Europe for the last two years. The London based duo lately has been working hard, providing remixes for the likes of Cut Copy, Headman and Tronik Youth, Roisin Murphy and Flight Facilities. Released debut single '10:01' with a remix from Villa and the second 'Shine a Light'.

“Shine A Light” is the second instalment from the dance-floor dudes coming out on the ever suave Relish Recordings and it was mixed by Headman. As with most songs its about a girl and how they don’t fulfill our hopes. Full of the trademark cowbells, sexy baselines and synth drenched, this soft vocal jam will also come with a set of remixes from acts like the Australian duo Flight Facilities who have come through with a “Pure Bliss” mix and slowed it right down to a point where a mojito appears in your hand and you teleport onto a beach in the bahamas. As well as a variety of vibes from Midnight Savari and Bxentric, who’s mix has already had early support on Radio 1 with Jaymo and Andy George playing and supporting the track.

What’s the first thing that pops into your head when gazing over the word ‘Villa’?

Is it a nostalgic yet timeless image of suntanned bodies in skimpy but stylish garments, dancing from dusk till dawn on vermillion beaches or swaying elegantly around pristine swimming pools adorning marble terraces that speck glowing Balearic hills?

Because that’s precisely the sort of imagery the boys of Villa have in mind when doing their stuff – and yes, that word has been mentioned: Balearic! Don’t try to pigeonhole this trio of time bandits though.

“Putting the so-called ‘balearic’ music scene in one box is against the very nature of its foundations. Balearic is no genre or tag, it’s a philosophy; an approach to music in all forms and shapes. It’s off-kilter disco, instrumental new wave B-sides, edgy pop gems, ancient house discs, below the radar rock tunes, Belgian new beat, slow motioned electro and everything in between. Preferably all in one stretch – no boundaries, all limits off. Open your mind and your feet will follow!” – there you have it.

Sure, Villa draw inspiration from the groundbreaking turntable eclecticism from such maverick disc jockeys as the legendary Alfredo, cosmic maestro Danielle Baldelli and the illustrious DJ Harvey but also credit their roots in Ghent as a driving creative force. The small community famously spawned dance floor heroes such as 2manydjs/Soulwax and The Glimmers, but also housed the notorious Boccaccio discotheque; birthplace of New Beat in the late 80s.

With almost ten years of DJ experience behind them, Fredo & Thang step up their game. First there was the Gameplay edit of Beirut’s indie gem Nantes – cooked up as a secret weapon but soon receiving kudos from major players such as Laurent Garnier, Dixon and Tim Sweeney.

Soon after, a hook up with vintage synth collector Seba, resulted in the birth of Villa. The well seasoned composer/producer resides in his cosy farmhouse, surrounded by a collection of rare musical toys – a perfect setting for this new musical venture. Let’s make this sure, this man has walked the line in terms of styles and productions and is working on some very promising stuff.

Musically, the trio like to reference astral innovators as Quincy Jones, Bo Michael Tretow, Giorgio Moroder or Vangelis, but also the edgy pop of Blondie or David Bowie. Pop sensibility matched with avant-garde.

In September I've posted this mix from Morning Factory by "Enzovoort" cause it made me feel 17 again, it was like in the old days when Joep used to make us these mix-tapes full of french-orientated house music. I must say it was and still is a privilege to know somebody like Enzovoort cause he gave us a wider perspective of house music in the early nighties. He managed and succeeded in most cases to turn our hardcore-minded heads into another direction. Showing us the reel love of house music... I must say he brought some culture in our lives!
Together with Jean-Pierre, whom I've met performing and organizing at several "Common People" parties at Ipanema, on his side this dynamic duo is definitely well equipped, highly educated and know their way around.

Swedish dance band Drop Out Orchestra has a lot in common with discourant. Both of them
have a sincere addiction for Daft Punk, Disco and Edits. As they exclusively pre-release there
new album "We Are Dropouts" on juno today, we give them some extra credit for what they've been doing.

With some good old classics from Herbie Hancock and Bruno's own disco-muse Luisa Fernandez, guides his posting us trough music that everyone should know.

Because of technical problems, which still are a bit of a mystery for me, I had to change the video source. In the mean time I found this mix that Mathias did for the Italian blog DiscoSafari.
The mix starts with the not yet released Munk remix of the new Jolly Jams E.P. and after some more straight house tracks it gets more and more into mid 70ies weird disco funk with an quite Arabian and Spanish flavor.
